Valentia - new discoveries

We have put many pictures of Valentia Island (and especially the lighthouse) on this blog, but we have now found new vantage points. We went to the highest point on Valentia - Geokaun Mountain - and to the Foghar Cliffs. One of the families that we work with has established a tourist site. It is very well done - a road to the top, a car park, and 34 signs. Other than that, it is the natural habitat and unbelievable views of Cahersiveen, the lighthouse, Beginish (the island between Valentia and Cahersiveen), the bridge to Port Magee, and the radio station. (Mick & Dick - this is above the point to which you and Dana climbed one day). Here are the views, and 1 of the signs - especially note the criteria for joining the Fianna - quite a difficult process! This was a great experience - it was a sunny day (rare this summer), but we were high enough that the clouds drifted in and out - sometimes we could see Cahersiveen, sometimes it was gone!


















Note - these last 2 pictures are from Bray Head, the westernmost point of Valentia. First is a view in the mist of the Skellig Islands and second is a view across Valentia to the Dingle Peninsula (probably at about Ventry Harbor) on the other side of the bay.
