London Sight Seeing

On Saturday morning we took a bus to Victoria Station and bought tickets for the sightseeing tour which included a boat tour on the Thames. The sun was shining and we really had a good time. Since we had just the 1 full day, we mostly looked and enjoyed, and didn't really go in to museums and other buildings. As usual, we sought out the market, which we loved, and spent a good bit of time walking through Kensington Gardens and Hyde Park. Here are a few of the MANY pictures we have of the day!

To the left  Waterloo Station; to the right a typical street scene with the iconic red double decker buses.

Above and below: Parliament - notice the gorgeous blue sky - not doctored! Below right - MFE with Big Ben striking noon.

We spent the rest of the afternoon on 2 of our favorite pasttimes - strolling through a market (Portabello Road in Notting Hill. And no, we didn't run in to Hugh Grant or Julia Roberts, though we kept our eyes peeled.) and walking through the beautiful parks - Kensington Park and Hyde Park.

Above: MFE at gates of Kensington Palace - this is where Diana and Charles lived, and we were there just after the anniversary of her death, so there were lots of flowers and tributes. Below, Kensington Palace with William of Orange Statue, and an interested fellow sitting outside the gates.

Kensington Park Lake - and all the Londoners enjoying the beautiful day.

Royal Albert Hall (which Dana and I both remember well from our first visits to London in the 70's) and 2 views of the Albert memorial statue in Kensington Park, just across from the Hall. There are more, and more elaborate, memorials to Albert than to most monarchs - she really loved him
