Shuller/Carney visit
In late May/early June we enjoyed a visit from McAlester friends Mary Beth Shuller Carney, husband Jim, brother Henry, sister Margaret (aka Maggie) and brother and s-in-law Frank and Jane. They stayed with us a few days during which we went to Valentia (unfortunately a rainy day), North Kerry, and an evening at Siamsa Tire (plus Jim played a round of golf with our friend Donie).
They then left to tour around a bit and ended up for their second week at a holiday home in Kenmare - we joined them there for the June Bank Holiday.
Most of the pictures I am posting are of people, as the scenery has been seen here before. However, we did tour the south end of the Ring of Kerry, which we haven't done too many times, so here are some new sites there. Above left: walking along the street in Sneem (note my Kerry Jersey - this was the day Kerry played Cork); middle and right - beautiful scenery around Cahernane House. Below - Cahernane House, home of Daniel O'Connell, which we toured.
Below left and right - Staig fort, slightly different than the one we usually visit in Cahersiveen. And, 3 of the sibs on the fort! .
Left, mfe and Henry with Charlie Chaplin in Waterville, where we ate and watched the Kerry/Cork match - Kerry pulled out a draw at the very last minute! And, the last shot - the award winning toilet in Port Magee - the sign says Ireland's Top Toilet Award - runner up. It is quite nice - can't imagine how pretty 1st place is. Below a nice close up of the Skellig Islands.
One day we drove from Kenmare through Moll's Gap, Ladies View, Torc Falls, and Muckross - the gardens at Muckross were too pretty to leave off! Mary Beth and I are at Torc Falls, and the group is Ladies View.
And, this final picture to give me a chance to tell you about Frank's passion - geo-caching. He hunts for "caches" by getting GPS coordinates - they are left all over the world. We went on a few side trips looking for them, but mostly they were where we were going anyway. Interesting.
